I’m a middle-aged woman who overcame serious illness through cycling. Along the way I’ve learned basic bike maintenance, bike etiquette, and I learned about my own strength. The first time I passed a fit guy on a hill I was amazed. I went from an inability to walk without assistance – an inability to even raise a foot to step up on a curb – to cycling 15 miles a day. I’m not a serious competitive athlete but I’m healthy and strong and I love cycling.
I advocate for safe cycling everywhere. I encourage courteous cycling everywhere. I hope more women learn to ride without fear. The more of us that are out there, the more visible we all become and the safer we all become.
